Circuits Designed by Dave Johnson, P.E. :
3 VOLT LOW BATTERY VOLTAGE FLASHER
This circuit is designed to monitor two alkaline cells (3v) that form the battery often used in portable electronic equipment. It use an inexpensive IC from Panasonic that is connected to
an efficient LED flashing circuit. When the battery voltage drops below a certain point the circuit flashes the LED. In the off state the circuit draws only 1uA, while in the active
flashing state it draws 20uA. Published in EDN, Jan 2, 1997
9v Battery Voltage Monitor This circuit turns on a LED whenever the voltage of a standard 9v battery connected to the circuit drops below 7.2 volts. It
uses a LTC1440 comparator, which also contains a 1.18v reference diode. In standby mode, the circuit draws only 4uA. (added 7/06)
Battery Charge Current Indicator
This circuit turns on a LED whenever it detects at least 25ma of battery charge current. (added 7/06)

Battery Automatic Power Off has Simpler Design: 03/31/05 EDN-Design Ideas / (added 5/05) In
low-noise analog circuits, a high-gain amplifier serves at input to increase SNR. The input signal level determines input-stage gain; low-level signals require highest
gain. It is also standard practice in low-noise analog-signal processing to make circuit's bandwidth as narrow as possible to pass only useful input-signal spectrum..... (added

Battery Low Voltage Beeper: This circuit provides an audible and visual low voltage warning for 12V battery powered
devices. Idle current: 6ma Low Voltage Warning current: 15ma…. (schematic / circuit design added 9/02)

Circuit Prevents Deep Discharge of Batteries: 09/26/96 EDN Design Ideas to -(added May2002) -avoid the deep
discharge that can destroy or shorten the life of a rechargeable Battery, you must disconnect its Load before the discharge is complete
Circuit Protects Battery from Overdischarge: 04/12/01 EDN-Design Ideas / (added 10/05) / In some applications, it is
undesirable to Overdischarge the battery, because it could irreversibly reduce the batteries capacity and the number of discharge/charge cycles. This circuit protects....
Circuit Safely Deep Discharges NiCd Battery: 04/29/99 EDN-Design Ideas / (added 11/05) Nickel-cadmium (NiCd) batteries can
possess an undesirable memory effect due to partial discharges. The remedy is a complete discharge before charging again. Figure 1a shows ...
