Playback Adaptor for CD-ROM Drives; Pt.2 - Last month, we published the circuit details of our new CD-ROM Player Adaptor and described its operation. This month, we show you how to build it.__ SiliconChip PlayPIC - This is a new design of a tutorial board based on the popular PIC16F84A microcontroller. It features eight single leds, a 7-segment display, an LCD display and five push buttons. It is an ideal solution for the beginner to take his/her first programming steps in the world of microcontrollers. Having an in-circuit-programming (ICP) header, it can be easily reprogrammed without unplugging the microcontroller each time, provided that the programmer also supports this feature (like OziPic’er) .

PLL synthesizing oscillator 1 - The PLL synthesizer oscillation circuit to introduce here is using the PLL frequency synthesizer (MB87014A) . It is possible to make oscillate the stable high frequency signal. The PLL is the abbreviation of Phase Locked Loop. In the operation of the PLL, it compares the frequency of the reference frequency oscillator and the frequency of the voltage controlled oscillator by the phase. When there is a difference of the phase, it works as if to control the VCO and to lose the difference. It controls repeatedly (loop) like the oscillation frequencyphase comparisonvoltage controloscillation frequency. __ Designed by Seiichi Inoue
PLL Synthesizing Oscillator 2 - In this page, I introduce the PLL synthesizer oscillator which used MC145163. As for the operation principle of the PLL synthesizer oscillator, see "Principle of the PLL oscillator". This IC for the PLL can specify a dividing ratio directly with the BCD. The output of the BCD counter can be directly connected. There is not a serial data generator, being necessary. __ Designed by Seiichi Inoue
PLL Synthesizing Oscillator 3 - I introduce the PLL synthesizer oscillator by MC14046B which can change the frequency. The PLL oscillator can be made using three kinds pieces of the ICs like the figure above. Because most of the functions are stored in the ICs, there are few, too, circumference circuits and the making is easy. The BCD (Binary Coded Decimal) switch is used to change the frequency. __ Designed by Seiichi Inoue

Pony Programmer - PonyProg is a serial device programmer software with a user friendly GUI framework available for Windows95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP and Intel Linux. Its purpose is reading and writing every serial device. At the moment it supports I²C Bus, Microwire, SPI eeprom, the Atmel AVR and Microchip PIC micro.
Ponyprog for ATMEL'S AVR - The ATMEL AVR programmer works with the Windows program "Ponyprog" which works under 95, 98, XP, and can be found at http://www. lancos. com/prog. html On board the AVRs that can be programmed are those in the schematic. For other members of AVR family or the rest programmable ICs that Ponyprog can program, there is the J1 connector (CON10) which allows expanding the programmer's hardware. See Ponyprog's site for other's ICs Ponyprog circuits. The JUMP1 jumper is there to connect the crystal's circuitry to the 8- pin AVRs or to disconnect it. Some AVRs have internal
Ponyprog for AVR & PIC16F84 - All resistors are 1/4W. The circuit is powered by 915V DC or AC. When In Circuit Programming (ISP) connectors are used, is possible the programmer to be powered from target’s power source. Diodes D2 and D6 protect the regulator LM7805, when target’s power is used. __ Designed by Kyriakos Kontakos
Poor man's analog to digital converter (ADC) using a 2N222 transistor & a few passives - Years ago some of the then-old engineers working in the cost-completive area of consumer electronics told me, “If it can’t be done with a handful of resistors, caps, a 1N4148 diode and an MPS3904 or MPS2907 transistor, it ain’t worth doing. ” __ Designed by Dave Wissel @ Wave Technology

Potentiometer Programs & Stabilizes Voltage Reference - 05/30/02 EDN-Design Ideas - The potentiometer portion of a mixed-signal, digitally programmable potentiometer adds variability to an analog circuit, and its controls provide programmability. You can use a potentiometer in two ways in an analog circuit. You can use it as a two-terminal variable resistance, or rheostat, or as a three-terminal resistive divider. / (schematic / circuit added 11/03] Design by Chuck Wojslaw, Catalyst Semiconductor, Sunnyvale, CA - May 30, 2002
Potentiometers & Analog-to-Digital Conversion with the PICAXE - Computers and micro-controllers don't understand real number measurements such as 2.5 volts. They understand only "1" and "0", which strung together as a group of 8 bits form a byte, and as 16 bits a "word".8-bits can represent a numerical value of 0 to 255 while say 10-bits can represent 0 to 1023. The PICAXE 18M2 also has a 10-bit ADC mode and the output requires a "word" (16-bit) variable. __ Designed by Lewis Loflin
Power Controller - PIC Project This device controls the power to 8 individual outlets. There are 16 power levels available for each one. Connection is made via 9600 baud serial using a din-5 connector. A single byte sets the power level for any of the 8 channels. Also, a global command sets all the power levels at once. __ Designed by Luhan Monat - Mesa Arizona

Power up a microcontroller with pre-power-down data - 03/17/05 EDN-Design Ideas - It is sometimes necessary to retrieve data at power-up in the same way that they were at the last power-down, so that the product wakes up in the state it had before shutdown or to retrieve some measurement. One approach is to save critical variables into EEPROM or flash memory as soon as they change Design by Stephan Roche, Santa Rosa, CA
