Circuit adds programmability to sensor Amplifier: 03/21/02 EDN Design Ideas / (added 1/05) The
pressure-sensor amplifier circuit of Figure 1 offers a number of advantages over the traditional approach using the classic three-op-amp instrumentation amplifier. The circuit can operate from
a single supply and uses only two op amps and 1% resistors. If the reference voltage, VREF, is 0V, the transducer gain for the circuit isTo ensure equal gain for the two ground-referenced
volt... ... |

Pressure Gauge Responds Linearly to Altitude: 03/03/94 EDN-Design Ideas / (Electronic Circuit diagram added 03/03) You can
use a common pressure transducer as an altimeter if you employ a special technique to make the transducer respond linearly. If you were to simply amplify the output of a pressure gauge's
bridge (VB in Fig 1) by a gain of 32.7 and an offset of 3.2V, such a circuit would produce an output of 0V at sea level and 1V at 10,000 ft. However, this simple design would read 38.5 mV (385
ft), which is too high at 5000 ft. The nonlinear relationship between atmospheric pressure and altitude causes the error, which peaks at 3.85% of full scale.... |

Use RS232C Port to Measure Pressure: 08/01/97 EDN Design Ideas / (added 8/03) A simple circuit and accompanying
software turn a pressure sensor into an accurate and cheap pressure digitizer that works with any PC's RS-232C COM port. Many manufacturers make micromachined silicon piezoresistive pressure
sensors. |
