Negative AIR Ioniser with Rotating Ion Thrust Emitters -  A fun way to show that an air ioniser is really working, using a self-propelled spinning emitter. __ Designed by Henry

New, Improved Theremin Mk.2 -  This design is an upgrade of our most popular Theremin which was featured in the August 2000 issue.  We have added a voicing control, incorporated a larger loudspeaker and increased the power output.  We've also changed the power supply to avoid problems with switchmode DC plugpacks. __ SiliconChip

Nine Volt Battery Eliminator -  for guitar pedals, radios etc __ Designed by G. Forrest Cook

No-CA3080 Guitar Compressor -  The TDA7052A is a readily available amplifier chip (Farnell # 526198) that has a DC controlled volume input.  Here, the IC is used as the variable gain amplifier in a guitar compressor, so the effect can be accomplished without the hard to obtain CA3080 operational transconductance amplifier (OTA).  Note that the suffix-less TDA7052 does not have DC volume controlmust register on this site __ Designed by Published in Elecktor July/Aug, 2010

Nominal 10 Watt Power Amplifier -  A Very Simple 12.5 Watt RMS Power Amplifier, into an 8 ohm load and with the op-amp driver.  This was the Maximum output before Clipping on the Oscilloscope, using an 8 Ohm Resistive load. __ Designed by G.L. Chemelec

OCTAL Phono Preamp -  This preamp design started out as a conventional three stage cascade with feedback RIAA equalization.  I decided on 6SL7's running into 6SN7's.  I figured it would be a good match (electrically and asthetically) for my 2A3 Amp.  After thinking it through I thought I might just try passive RIAA.  (Even a better matchno feedback!!!) I noticed a neat RIAA preamp circuit in the back of the RCA Tube Manual RC-19 that used a single 7025 per channel __ Designed by Bob Danielak

Octave screamer -  Note that the octave module consists of only five parts – input capacitor, transformer, two germanium diodes, and an output volume pot.  The logical extension of this idea would be to add a DPDT switch so the signal could be routed to either the octave circuit or the TS tone controls.  Each path ends with a volume control and the switch __ Designed by Scott Swartz

Omega -  A versatile FET booster engine. __ Contact: holler @ runoffgroove.Com

On/off buffer switches analog or digital signals -  30-Mar-06 EDN-Design Ideas Use an op amp and a dual SPST to switch signals under digital control Design by Liviu Pascu, Kepco, Flushing, NY

One transistor HF/VHF/UHF preamp using one BSX-20 transistor -  The MAR6 (MSA-0686, 0685, 0885) is a high performance silicon bipolar Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit (MMIC) housed in a low cost, surface mount plastic package.
This MMIC is designed for use as a general purpose 50 W gain block.  Applications include narrow and broad band IF and RF amplifiers in commercial and industrial applications. __ Designed by Guy Roels ON6MU

One Transistor Theremin -  This design is from a magazine called "Divirta-se com a Eletrônica", which translates to "have fun with electronics", and, indeed, is very fun.  For those who don't know what a Theremin is, it's one of the first synths ever made and it's named after his inventor, Mr.  Leon Theremin   (a Russian guy).  It's perhaps the only instrument which you don't actually touch: there's an antenna, and as the musician moves his hand near it, the pitch changes.  That's the thing Page used in "Whole Lotta Love"   (he used it with an echo, to get even weirder).  This circuit is a very simplified version of a theremin, but is also very easy to build and really works!

One Watt Class-C Amplifier -  Schematic only, no circuit description __ Designed by © 2001YO5OFH, Csaba Gajdos

Opamp Based Power Amplifier -  This is a contributed project, and has some interest as a learning exercise __ Designed by Rohit Balkishan

Optical Fiber Receiver-5Mhz Broad Band -  This circuit is a simple broad band light detector that uses a very inexpensive IC and a PIN photodiode that is packaged for use with plastic optical fibers.  It has a bandwidth from 1KHz to over 5MHz.  It is great for experimenting with various modulated . . . Hobby Circuit designed by David Johnson P.E.-June, 2000

Optical string-tuning tool -  This tool assists you in tuning your string instrument to a given tone.  It utilizes the stroboscopic effect to give feedback about the adjustment of your instrument.  The two LEDs on the board blink with the frequency that the chosen tone has.  When

Oscillator or Joystick Controlled AM bisonic Pan-Rotate -  A system that rotates mono or B-format soundstage signals by joystick control or spins them continually with an oscillator.  Also creates some attractive lissajous curves as a fortunate by-product. __ Designed by Henry

Pardy Lights: an Intriguing Colour Display -  OK, so they're really "party" lights.  They're easy to build and produce random colour patterns to the bass beat from your music. __ SiliconChip

Pedalboard Power Supply -  Pedalboard Power Supply with adjustable Old Battery settings __ Designed by Guitar Effect RC Keen

Pedalboard PS  -  Pedalboard Power Supply with adjustable Old Battery settings __ Designed by Guitar Effect RC Keen

Phase 180 Plus  -  An update/extension of the Phase 90 with extra stages and controls for the experimenter. __ Designed by Guitar Effect RC Keen

Phase 90/180 schematic -  The MXR Phase 90, plus extension to eight stages. __ Designed by Guitar Effect RC Keen

Phozer -  The original Phozer was a sound idea, but was hindered by its mashed-up development.  The circuit didn't really exceed the sum of its parts, namely Tim Escobedo's Idiot Wah and the LFO from the EA Tremolo.  The faux phase shifting effect was reasonably convincing at faster speeds, but the LFO failed to produce a true sweep at slower speeds.  Rather than ramp up and down, at slow speeds the LFO simply spent more time in the darker heel-down position between quick pulses of toe-down mode.  Also, we saw that using op-amps rather than discrete components would probably allow for a more complex effect with fewer parts. __ Contact: holler @ runoffgroove.Com

PICAXE Plays Music -  One of the most popular uses of PICAXE chips is in sound orientated projects.  Both the new PICAXE-14M and PICAXE-28X1 support the 08M 'play' and 'tune' commands, which allow the PICAXE chips to play mobile phone ring-tones directly via a piezo sounder. __ SiliconChip

PIC-Based Musical Tuning Aid -  This compact device will help you tune almost any musical instrumentacoustic or electronic.  It can produce any note on the tempered musical scale   (standard pitch) in any of the eight most commonly used octaves, with an accuracy of better than ?0.08% or 1.3 musical cents.  The selected note is compared with that from the instrument either by ear or visually by using an eight-LED stroboscopic beat indicator. __ SiliconChip

Pira CZ Compressor/Limiter/Clipper for FM Broadcasting -  Audio signals as music or speech have big dynamic ranges.  There are silent and loud sections.  These audio signals aren't too good for a transmitter, which requires audio signal with constant level on the input.  Limiter is a device, __   Jan Kolar

Portable CD Player Adapter for Car -  Whenever I'm in the car listening to my favourite CD, it always happens-my batteries go dead.  To solve that problem, I built this extremely simple regulator circuit.  It steps down the 12V from the lighter socket to 9V which is used by the CD player __ Designed by Aaron Cake

Project 3A-60-100W Hi-Fi Power Amplifier -  This new amp (like the original) is based on an amp I originally designed many years ago, of which hundreds were built.  Most were operated as small PA or instrument amps, but many also found their way into home hi-fi systems.  The amp is perfectly capable of driving 4 Ohms, provided the supply voltage is maintained at no more than ±35V. __ Designed by Rod Elliott  ESP
