Circuits Designed by Dave Johnson, P.E. :
Click Sound Generator -  Often in computer controlled systems, you would like to generate a “click” sound whenever a button is pressed.  This provides the user with audible feedback that the pushbutton press has been acknowledged.  The two circuits below generate such a sound.  A click sound is generated each time the logic input swings from a logic low to high condition. . . Egyption Talking Frog Box -  This device 'listens' to a conversations and then interjects words and phrases at inappropriate times.   __ Designed by Luhan Monat-Mesa Arizona

Electronic Canary Doorbell -  This circuit is a modified "Hartley Oscillator" with a couple extra parts.    T1, the LT700 (Tony van Roon's or equivalent, is a small center tapped (Tony van Roon's ct) audio transformer with an impedance of 1000 ohms at 1000 hertz.    The secondary of this transformer has an impedance of 8 ohms.    Usually noted as 1K:8 ct.    I tried a couple other models like the red and green types (Tony van Roon's taken out of a $5 made-in-china am pocket radio) and they both work good.    You may have to adjust the caps to get the sound __ Designed by Tony van Roon  VA3AVR

Electronic Canary Sound Effects -  An electronic version of a chirping canary.  May be used as an alarm, a sound effects generator or perhaps a replacement doorbell __ Designed by Andy Collison

Electronic Chime -  Scroll Down to find this circuit.  This circuit simulates a chime similar to the sound many cars make when the keys are left in the ignition.  The bottom two gates form a squarewave audio oscillator that drives the base of the 2N4401, turning it on and off at an audio rate.  The top two gates produce a short low-going pulse about once per second that discharges the 10 uF capacitor through the diode.  The voltage then jumps up and slowly decays __  Contact:  Charles Wenzel of Wenzel Associates, Inc.

Electronic Dog Whistle -  Need electronic dog whistle? it is widely known that dogs can hear sounds with frequencies higher than the humans cant hear.  Sound frequencies higher than 20 kHz can be hardly detected by humans but animals are very sensitive to it.  Basing this fact, an electronic dog whistle can be constructed and used to call dogs back from __ Designed by D Mohankumar

Hack of Talking Fish using a PIC16F819 microcontroller -  These items were sold nationally several years ago.  The fish would sing, open its mouth, turn its head, and flap its tail.  After removing the back panel, all of the existing electronics were removed leaving only the 3 servo motors, speaker and photocell)  __ Designed by Luhan Monat - Mesa Arizona

Hammond Sound Generator -  it started out oh-so simple, and turned into a Frankenstein's monster.  Still, "if a jobs worth doing, it's probably going to take sixty times as long as you first imagined.  " Strike while the iron's still damp in the fridge, and start building yours today!   __ Designed by Henry

Happy Birthday Singer solar engine -  Time-Controlled Solar Engine: The original Type 2 Solar Engine was based around the "Happy Birthday Singer" (HBS) chip that was pulled from the original Hallmark singing greeting cards.   __ Designed by Wilf Rigter

Infra Red Switch -  This is a single channel (on / off) universal switch that may be used with any infra Red remote control using 36-38kHz. (This is a very common remote handset frequency).  in place of iR1 a TSOP1738 receiver may be used.     __ Designed by Andy Collison

Jet Aircraft Engine Sound Generator -  This is a simple sound generator to produce jet engine aircraft sounds and it will run on any battery voltage between 3v and 40v.  The circuit will produce 4 sounds : low speed sound of aircraft, high speed sound of aircraft, missile and machine gun.  They are activated by connecting pins 12, 13, 14 or 15 to ground respectively.   __ Designed by Popescu Marian

Machine Gun -  This circuit produces a sound very similar to a machine gun:__ 555-Timer

Metronome -  A Universal Power supply based on the L200 regulator, which includes an outboard pass transistor to boost output currents up to 4 amps.   __ Designed by Andy Collison

Metronome & Pitch Generator -  CMOS IC 1 and IC 2B quad AND gate form a 2.4576 MHz crystal oscillator plus a 2400 times divider.  IC 3A provides further division by 16, delivering a 64 Hz stable frequency square wave.  This frequency is multiplied (by means of Phase Locked Loop IC 5, double decade divider IC 4 and IC 3B 4 bit binary divider) by the number set by three miniature BCD thumbwheel switches SW1, SW2 and SW3: units, tens and hundreds respectively. __ Contact Flavio Dellepiane, fladello @ tin.it

MIDI Drum Machine Analog Input Schematic -  Schematic only __ Designed by Paul Stoffregen

Model Train Diesel & Horn Sound Module -  A good friend of mine having just retired acquired as a gift a small gauge miniature train set and asked me if I would design something to simulate a diesel electric sound and horn for it.  Looking for shortcuts I researched many already-published designs most of which used a digital transmitter and receiver.  Dissatisfied with all of them I decided to design a system for universal application for any system up to 20 volts. __ Designed by © Laurier Gendron, Burnaby, B.C., Canada

Model Train Horn (2-tone) -  With this circuit you can electronically simulate the noise of a diesel-train horn.  The sound is triggered automatically as the train reaches a desired place on the track so you can produce the sound as the train approaches stations, level crossings, etc.  The circuit can be built simply by using one 556 or two 555 timers __ Designed by Tony van Roon  VA3AVR

Module Gives Voice to PC -  EDN Design Ideas:  05/26/94    The circuit in Fig 1 uses the iSD1020A voice-record/playback chip (information Storage Devices, San Jose, CA, (800) 825-4473) to allow an iBM PC to speak and hear.  The analog part of the circuitry comes from the company's application notes.  The host PC controls address inputs (A0 through A7) , Chip Enable (CE) , Playback/Record (P/R) , and Power Down (PD).  The host also—supposedly—monitors End Of Message flag (EOM).   Design by Jerzy R Chrzaszcz, Institute of Computer Science, Warsaw University of Technology, Warsaw, Poland

NCO technique helps µC produce clean analog signals -  EDN-Design ideas – April 15, 1999    [  NOTE:    FILE
has multiple design, scroll for this one.]  A recent Design idea described a method for producing an analog voltage from one digital output of a µC ("Generate an analog signal with a µC, " EDN, Oct 22, 1998, pg 108).  The method involves generating a PWM output with a controlled duty cycle and filtering the switching waveform with a simple single-pole RC filter.  Although this method provide as an accurate dc output with 8 bits of resolution, it requires a filter with a low cutoff frequency to reduce the ripple to less than 1 LSB. Design by Steve Ploss, Veridian Corp, Wright Patterson AFB, OH
