Standalone Digital Voltmeter Uses a Multichannel ADC - 11/15/12 EDN-Design Ideas Monitor several different voltages with one instrument. This Design Idea was realized for voltage/current measurement on a four-channel analog voltage source but has wide use in many other applications. The design is based on the Atmel ATmega8-16AC microcontroller and the MAX1230 12-bit ADC (references 1 and 2) . Although the microcontroller has an internal 10-bit ADC, it’s more efficient to use an external multichannel ADC than to multiplex more analog channels to the ATmega8-16AC differential ADC inputs Design by Branislav Korenko
Starship Enterprise Door Sounder - Here's a project especially for trekkies. At the closure of remote switch contacts, it recreates that distinctive "ssshhhhhhh-thump" sound of the sliding doors opening or closing on the "Starship Enterprise". Stepper Motor Interface - M1 is a stepper taken from an old disk drive. There are five pins, i. e. , common, coil 1, 2, 3 and 4. Resistance measured between common pin and each coil is about 75 Ohms. Driving current for each coil is then needed about 60mA at +5V supply. A darlington transistor array, ULN2003 is used to increase driving capacity of the 2051 chip __ Designed by Wichit Sirichote
Stereo Audio Compressor - Do you hate the way the sound level on your TV suddenly jumps during the advert breaks? Or do you find that the sound levels vary widely when switching between digital TV stations? Or maybe you have problems listening to CDs or MP3s in your car or against the background din during a party? Are the soft parts too soft and the loud parts too loud? This Stereo Compressor will solve that problem. It reduces the dynamic range of the signal while still maintaining clean sound. The unit is also ideal for use with PA systems.__ SiliconChip

Strategy Processes Video In RAM - 03/18/10 EDN-Design Ideas How you process images in RAM can eliminate problems with different image sizes. Many video devices, such as the Analog Devices ADV7179 DAC, have analog-baseband-TV interfaces for PAL (phase-alternating-line) and NTSC (National Television System Committee) video signals. Unfortunately, these kinds of DACs accept video in interlaced-image format only, but you may need progressive-scan video instead. Furthermore, many of the progressive-scan images vary in size, which makes it more difficult to convert a progressive-scan image to an interlaced image. Therefore, you need a universal and efficient image buffer, such as SDRAM or DRAM, as a strategy for separating the image field. Design by Tai-Shan Liao, National Applied Research Laboratories, Hsinchu, Taiwan
