Circuits Designed by Dave Johnson, P.E. :

Eight-Solar Cell Lithium Ion Battery Charger Version 3 -  A single lithium ion battery cell needs 4.2v from a current source to insure it is fully charged.  A solar panel with just enough individual cells wired in series to produce the needed voltage would be more efficient than one with more cells for a given surface area.  if you divide 4.2 by eight you come up with a figure of 0.525 volts. . . Circuit by David Johnson P.E.-May, 2013

FET Input High Speed Light Detector -  This circuit is yet another design that converts current from a PIN photo diode to a voltage.  it has a bandwidth that extends beyond 50MHz. . . Circuit by David A. Johnson P.E.-June, 2000

Feedback circuit enhances phototransistor's linear operation -  12-Oct-06 EDN Design Ideas:  Bias-current compensation reduces ambient-light saturation effects.  A designer who uses a phototransistor to convert a modulated optical signal to an electrical signal frequently encounters problems when high-intensity background light saturates the phototransistor. When its base terminal floats, a phototransistor's collector-to-emitter voltage depends only on the photocurrent generated by the superposition of the signal and background light. __ Designed by J Ferrer

Image-Capture System Uses USB & Labview -  24-Jun-10 EDN Design Ideas:  Capturing and processing graphical images requires manipulating data into a form that you can use.  This design idea describes an imaging system using a USB (Universal Serial Bus) image-capturing system that uses OmniVision’s 640×480-pixel, 8-bit-color OV7660 image sensor.  The CY7C68013A-128AXC from Cypress Semiconductor provide as a USB interface between a PC and the image sensor (Figure 1).  The control software is written in LabView from National instruments __ Circuit Design by Chien-Hung Chen and Po-Jui Chen, National Applied Research Laboratories, Hsinchu, Taiwan
